What is online physio?

Sceptical?

Due to the recent COVID-19 pandemic, all gyms and physiotherapy clinics have been closed. Due to this, we are now offering an online service.

We have teamed up with Physitrack to offer a face to face online physiotherapy solution. An online physiotherapy session consists of all of the key components that would be completed in a face to face environment.

How does it work?

An online physiotherapy session consists of all of the main major components that would be included within a face to face physiotherapy session. We would send you an email which will include a link to join the online appointment. From there, we would complete the following like we would in a clinic environment:

  • Take a detailed history of the injury

  • Observe and analyse the client complete a number of different mobility and musculoskeletal tests, as we would in the clinic

  • Create and provide an online rehabilitation program, including massage techniques, strengthening exercises, and stretching.

  • Provide expert advice to the client regarding injury pathology, key milestones to facilitate a return to fitness, and information on accurate time frames for progression.

But can you effectively assess and treat an injury without seeing me?

We have heard this question a lot over the past week. We have found online physiotherapy to be quite effective. It actually isn't a new concept, and has been used in elite sport over the past few years to facilitate immediate progression.

The reason why elite sportspeople are back to full fitness so quickly is not because they are receiving constant hands on treatment. It's because they are receiving constant exercise progression in the gym, which means the body is constantly reacting to a build response induced by the exercise and load through the tissue.

We will provide self massage techniques if appropriate as part of the program. These can be completed with items such as massage balls, foam rollers, and of course our fingers and thumbs. If you're unsure whether online physiotherapy would be appropriate for your current injury, please send us an email with more information and we can advise you on what may be the best option moving forwards.
